Putting the BNA Model of Care into Practice
Be Not Afraid trains and equips Parent Care Coordinators (PCCs) to provide comprehensive, personalized case management support to parents carrying to term after a life-limiting prenatal diagnosis. Families are served individually, not in groups.
Parent Care Coordinators offer practical guidance, information, referrals, and bereavement support so that parents understand what is normal, what is possible, and what may be helpful as they carry to term.
They work with parents in developing a personalized written birth plan, including a newborn care plan, to help parents make informed decisions regarding labor, birth, and the care of their baby.
When requested, PCCs may attend births or assist parents in finding appropriate birth support.
When needed, they provide information on funeral planning and memory-making.
After birth, PCCs offer ongoing contact for one year, including referrals for additional support as needed.
Be Not Afraid now equips organizations and trains Parent Care Coordinators to provide this model of care in their own communities.
